Blitz, with only a few minutes on each clock, is how many Brussels players spend a weeknight. The Ixelles Chess Club runs a friendly blitz every Tuesday evening at the Toots Jazz Club near the Grand-Place and asks players to register half an hour before the start. The Belgian Chess Club plays a FIDE-rated blitz on the last Friday of most months at De Rinck in Anderlecht, and Schaakclub Richard Réti has organised a rated blitz series with it.
Europchess has an after-work blitz and an informal blitz at lunchtime in a European Commission building, for players linked to the European institutions. Les Deux Fous in Etterbeek holds blitz opens on Saturday afternoons at the Espadon pool, including a youth open, and the Brussels Chess Club opened its season in Uccle with a rated Back2School blitz at the end of August.
