About this page
A game in Brussels can be had on most days of the week if you know where to go. The clubs keep fixed evenings, and several let visitors in: the Ixelles Chess Club says its weekly friendly tournaments are open to anyone, without club membership. On Tuesday evening there is blitz at the Toots Jazz Club, on Saturday afternoon a rapid at the Café Montmartre in Ixelles, and once a month a Chess960 evening at La Tourelle. The Muntpunt library near De Munt keeps a free table on Wednesday afternoons for every age.
For players after a longer game, the memorial tournaments of the city and the Brussels interclubs appear here as well. Several cafés in the centre and in Ixelles that older guides named for chess have no recent trace, and their cards are marked unconfirmed until a newer page turns up.
